June, 2000 --The Redemption Ministry Newsletter
Ministry updates We know we aren’t the best in writing newsletters and keeping everyone up to date on what we have been doing. Hopefully we can get better at it. We are excited about what the Lord is doing in our life. There are always those times of trials and tribulations and disappointments, but we always remember that the Lord will never disappoint us or forsake us. What a joy it has been to serve HIM all these years. Between trips to India, we have been ministering at the church and coffeehouse in Duluth. This will be a busy summer with the outreach going on continually at the coffeehouse, plus tent meetings in McGregor, Spirit Valley Days Parade and Outreach, and tent meetings in Duluth that will be totally set apart for prayer. We want to join together with the different ministries in Duluth and pray for the city, breaking down the strongholds. We are believing God for a mighty move in Duluth. Duluth coffeehouse Last July we were given a building in downtown Duluth to operate as a drop in help center and drug rehab. We offer counseling and free coffee and pastries to the needy in Duluth. Every week we have gospel bands playing and ministering. One of the biggest obstacles we have run into is that there are so many programs offering so much to the street people. They offer everything but JESUS. And we all know that Jesus is what they need to change the direction of their life. He is the one that can offer spiritual food and living water so they hunger and thirst no more. We want to be there to offer them hope in Jesus. We just had the privilege of having a memorial service for a lady that frequently came to the coffeehouse and had become a member of our church. She was what some might consider to be a “social outcast”. But even with her many problems, one thing was obvious to everyone she met – she loved the Lord! Other than her husband, she had no family members that kept in touch with her. At her memorial service, many shared about her serving and cleaning up at the coffeehouse, and the love she had for the people there. It reminded us that after we are gone, it doesn’t matter how much money we made, how new of a car we drove, how nice of clothes we wore, or how big our house was. The only thing that will last will be what was done for Christ! Carrie-the-joy children’s home As many of you know, the government in India began to demand that we do more “social work” in order for them to allow us to continue the ministry in India. So earlier this year we began to establish the “Carrie-the-Joy Children’s Home”. With the help of many dear friends, we were able to purchase land in Günter. One of the first things that must be done is to build a compound wall to keep squatters off the land. The wall is completed and a well has been drilled. We are now in the fund raising process so we can begin to build the complex that will be a combination church and home for children. In the meantime, we have rented a house for the children’ s home. We already have 16 kids in our care. The land was purchased in an area right next to a new colony. There are hundreds of huts within a short walking distance of the church. We believe that not only will we be able to help many children in the home, but that this will be a thriving church, reaching out to the poor community around it. The name for the children’s home is in memory of our sister, Carrie, who went home to be with the Lord in 1998. Carrie was the first in the family to know the changing power of Jesus Christ. As she gave her heart to Him, she couldn’t help but share of the peace and love she now had. From her testimony the entire family committed their lives to Christ. Carrie-the-Joy was her e-mail address. We thought it was the perfect name for this children’s home that will be filled with the joy of knowing Jesus. It is our desire to make a difference in the lives of these destitute children – to give them a hope for their future. Redemption school of ministry The opening of the new Bible School in Günter will be in August of this year. This facility is so much larger and will be able to accomplish much more for the kingdom of God. We will be able to house 150 or more students; we are planning on having 75 students this first year in the new school. There are dorm rooms, conference rooms, rooms for married couples, a library, and classrooms. There is even an apartment for us within the Bible School complex. We also have rooms for guests, so let us know if you are interested in a missions trip to India. For the Bible School ministry, we have been working with Scott and Melody Norling of India Gospel Mission. Scott was able to raise the funding for this tremendous building. The Bible School has been one of the most fruitful portions of our ministry. Hundreds of men and women have graduated from the Bible School and have gone on to teach many more. We are excited about expanding this portion of the ministry. “And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2 Sponsorship We are taking a big step of faith in establishing this home for children that need help, and in expanding the Bible School. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, the cost is $25.00 per month per child. This money would supply them with a home, food, clothing, and a Christian education. We will send you a picture and brief history of the child, and an opportunity to write letters and receive letters from your sponsored child. If you are interested, please notify us as soon as possible. If you are interested in helping with the building of the home, you can send donations marked for the children’s home to the address on the back of the newsletter. If you are interested in helping with the Bible School, please mark that on your check. All donations are tax deductible. For those who would like to hear more about these ministries, we would be happy to come to your church or your home fellowship and share with you. Upcoming mission trips We will be going to India in November through April. We are excited about this time that we will be able to spend with the Bible students and the kids at the Children’s Home. We will also be doing many evangelistic meetings with the opportunity of praying for thousands. Pastor Dennis Bradshaw, our Associate Pastor, and his wife Shelly, will be taking care of the Duluth ministry again while we are gone. They have done a terrific job and it is a pleasure to work with them. Mike Francen of Francen World Outreach has asked if we would do some pastor conferences in conjunction with evangelistic meetings that he is doing. There is the possibility of going to Cambodia which has very few established churches. We want to bring in pastoral materials and encourage them in their work for the Lord. Our hearts were really touched as we worked with Francen World Outreach last year in Thailand. We also had the opportunity to briefly visit Burma, which is a destitute country in real need of the gospel. Please pray for us as we continue to venture out to spread the Word of God here and overseas. If you know of anyone who would like to be added to our mailing list, please send us their address. If you would like to be taken off our mailing list, just let us know. Many thanks to those of you who have supported us with your love, prayers, and support. Without you, none of this would be possible. May God bless you abundantly! Our mailing address is: Redemption Ministry P. O. Box 201 Floodwood, MN 55736
