atheist  I think Christians would do well to listen to atheists.  They have a very good point that Christians, at least in America, would do well to hear… accept… believe… and live.  Let me explain.

In my last post I referenced an article by atheist Matthew Parris who lauded the Christian presence in Africa (Click here to read the post… click here to read the article).  Bottom line Mr. Paris writes that the Christian presence in Africa is a good thing as it improves people’s lives socially and personally.

Then there was a comment to the post from a gentleman who wrote…

Maybe if Christians performed the same kind of work here, instead of just proselytizing and trying to step on the constitution, American atheists and secularists would look at them in a different light as well.

He is right… he nails it… he has a good point!

Maybe… just maybe… Christians should proselytize from a platform of credibility and believability rather than railing condemnations on politicians, Hollywood, and everyone else they consider “sinners.”

Maybe… just maybe… Christians should understand that what we say, how we act, and the way we conduct ourselves does matter.

Maybe… just maybe… Christians should believe Jesus who said, “All men will know you are my disciples by your love for one another” (John 13:35).

Maybe… just maybe… Christians should remember what is written in Isaiah 1:15-17 where it is recorded God said…

When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listenyour hands are full of blood.  16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, 17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.

A hungry man will not listen until he is filled.  A person in pain must be given relief before he is open to ideas.  Only people who are believable will be believed.  Last… The only people who are given a hearing are those who are liked and respected.

Lesson… Christians should listen to the atheists for a moment.  Hear their words of instruction and take them to heart!  For unknowingly, they are echoing the words of The Lord.
