A lot of people are losing their jobs.   I know what it’s like to be working and told you’re services are no longer needed.  There are good things that can result from being “let go,” “fired,” or “given an early retirement.”  Here are a few thoughts…

It’s a great time to re-evaluate your life.   Consider that this is a time God may be giving you to get things in order that have not been properly considered for years.

It’s a great time to consider other avenues.   Be creative.  Do something you’ve always wanted to do.  Something different, something that fulfills a longing you’ve had for a while.  Even in tough economic times there are things people need, and will pay for!

It’s a great time to take a rest and recharge your batteries.  Mark 6:31, “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, (Jesus) said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'”

For each question, consider 2 Timothy 2:7, “the Lord will give you understanding in everything.”

In uncertain times it is best to spend a lot of time with God in the Scriptures.  Below are a few passages that you might find encouraging.

Psalm 46

Psalm 34

Psalm 42

1 Peter 5:6-10

My favorite passages for seeking God regardless of circumstances are…

2 Chronicles 20:12 “For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

Habakkuk 3:17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.  19 GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places
