Thinker.gif  2 Timothy 2:7, “Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.” (ESV)

How should you handle a particular situation?  What should be your response if/when event “x” takes place?  What is God’s will for your life?  The answer to those and thousands of other questions may very well come as you meditate and reflect upon God and His Word.

The practice of meditation… rumination… and reflection is virtually lost to many in society.  Because of text messages… the internet… I-Pod… T.V… cell phones… and a host of other things, few are able to think by being quiet and still.  It is Rare that a person doesn’t multi-task throughout their day (Doing two or three things at the same time).  Multi-tasking is not a skill… it is a cancer on the soul!

Do you remember what Jesus said as recorded in Mark 6:31?  “And he said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.’  For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.”

Some of the most spiritually significant times in my life have been when I’m alone… quiet… and by myself.  It is when there is nothing else going on around me that I am able to hear the voice of God as I read Scripture or just take in His creation.  For the most part, God does not yell… He will not compete with a polethera of sensory input… He will not jockey for first place in our hearts, minds, and souls.  But make no mistake… God is always there.

Instead, God waits to see who will seek Him.  He whispers softly to see who is listening for Him.  He taps lightly on our shoulders to find out who will notice He is there.  The more you learn to wait and listen through reflection, the closer you will be to God.

The best thing any person can do to regain spiritual and emotional health would be to turn everything off.  Get alone by themselves where it is quiet.  And meditate upon God.  Read a passage in Psalms… from the Gospels or Proverbs and then wait on God.  It will take more than 10 minutes… so be patient.  Remember 2 Timothy 2:7!
