RedneckWheelchairThere is a difference between being old and old-ER. It is possible to be old-ER but not old.  In fact, those who get old-ER without getting old will someday have a wheelchair similar to the “Redneck Wheelchair” to the right (I have mine on order now.  Mine is being painted fire engine red)!

I doubt many under the age of 25 will read this post… especially those who are teenagers… but if they do, here is some advice from someone who is old-ER. These words may very well keep you from becoming an old person when you get old-ER.

ENJOY LIFE!  Have fun!  If there is something you’d really like to do… like shave your head, parachute, bungee, or take a road trip…  DO IT!  If there is something that you KNOW one day your spouse will look at you and say… “NO WAY!” then do it now before you get trumped!

Laugh!  Live!  Be a little crazy ever now and then.  Don’t just act immature ever so often, BE immature.

After all, you’re only young once… but you can be immature forever!  (Snicker… wink)

Now for all the old fogies reading this that don’t agree with my suggestions, I do have a spiritual point AND a Biblical basis.

Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. 10 Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.  12:1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them…”

God doesn’t say “Don’t enjoy life,” He made it to be joyful!  God doesn’t say, “Never have fun,” He wants us to have fun.  The time will come all too soon when getting out of bed is hard… the body aches… sleep is fitful… and in general there won’t be as much joy.  So have fun while you can!

The only thing to remember is to keep your fun within God’s boundaries.  You don’t have to be a slave to other people’s lists… just God.  Listen to Him.  Follow His leadership.  And I tell you this… enjoying HIM is the greatest joy there is in life!
