I heard this quote last week…

Dissatisfaction with the sovereignty of God is not the mark of a sanctified mind (Art Azurdia).

coin-in-god-we-trustWhen I heard that, I stopped the CD and let that thought sink in for a while.  I am one of those who believes strongly in the sovereignty of God in all things.  I include both the good and bad… small and great… important and unimportant (from my perspective).  Thus I am still bouncing that quote around in my head.

I began thinking of what I am… or have been… dissatisfied with in the past and don’t particularly care for today in terms of God’s sovereignty. If I really believe what I say I believe, then I need to sift my thoughts and emotions through the thought that God IS sovereign.  Therefore…

The things I have believed to have been “bad” cannot be “bad” because God was in control and doing what glorified Him and that is always good.  Note: In my theology there is a difference between something being bad and something being evil.  Something can be evil and still be good (See Genesis 50:20).

The times I’ve been frustrated, angry, or hurt over situations or what people have done is not a proper Christian view because those attitudes expose that my heart wasn’t trusting God.

The worries I have now are unfounded because I have no reason to believe anything other than that God is in complete control of every circumstance I am… or may find myself in.

It exposes a lack of belief in the sovereignty of God every time I worry or am anxious about what is happening or may happen in the future.

What does the Scripture say about God’s Sovereignty?

Daniel 4:35 All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand or say to Him, “What have You done?”

Romans 9:15 For (God) says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, 10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose…”

Do you really believe God is sovereign?  If you say you do… then how does that belief impact your world view?  How does that belief effect how you process life events?  What are you upset or worried about right now that is exposing your lack of faith in God as revealed in the Scriptures above?
