One of the things I like about going places, asking questions, and listening to people are the stories they tell.  This happened while I was on my retreat this week.  This is a really cool story…

We met a man who found out we were staying in a cabin on “Missionary Ridge.”  He told us about missionaries who read The Bible to the local indians and communicated that from The Book they heard from God.  The Indians were so impressed that they wanted the missionaries to teach their children how to read so that… get this… “So they could hear The Book speak!”

Imagine that!  They heard that you could hear from God by reading The Word.  And they wanted to be able to “hear The Book speak.”  What we take for granted, they sought and wanted.  Now think with me a little…

People say they want to “hear from God.”  They want God to direct their life.  They want to know God’s will.  Have we ever considered that when we read The Bible that we ARE hearing from God?  Read that last sentence again!  When we read Scripture, we are hearing God speak His Truth that transcends time, culture, and the ages.

It is an honor and a blessings for us to be able to “Hear The Book speak!”  It is an awesome thing to consider and realize that when we read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit speaks to us.  That should encourage us to regularly pick up The Book and hear God speak!
