There is a difference between counseling someone who is trying to make a decision and being the one making a decision.  The former is relatively easy, the latter can be tough!  Giving advice is like drinking water, anyone can do it.  Making a decision… and living with the consequences… can be daunting to say the least (Including preachers!).

My son Britton was listening last night as my wife and I were talking about making a decision.  I decided to let the veil down and allow my son to hear his dad struggle with the emotions and questions that come with working through those kind of situations.  This morning I had a text from my son… sent at 1:14 AM… and here’s what he sent me:

Scriptures that talk about how no matter what we want, decide, or plan… God directs our life in His will…

Proverbs 21:1, The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever he will.

Jeremiah 10:23, I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

Proverbs 16:9, The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

Isaiah 14:27, For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it?  His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?

Proverbs 20:24, A man’s steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?

Proverbs 19:21, Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.

I love it when my kids are “getting it!”  I love it when they exhibit spiritual maturity.  I love it when their first thought is to go to the Scripture.  That was my son’s way of saying, “Dad… Don’t Worry!”  He is right…

Now… I’m going to go meditate upon a few Scriptures after thanking God for my kids.

Britton… thank you buddy!
