Churches that oppose gay marriage are being targeted by protesters. Click here, here, and here. It could happen at churches across America before long… so be ready.
Note: For the record, I am just as much opposed… and condemn… the practices of pre-marital sex, fornication, and adultery as I do homosexuality. All four acts are equally sinful in the sight of God.
The time will come when homosexuals will first ask… then demand… for pastors to marry them. The time will come when churches that oppose gay marriage will be harassed, attacked, and bullied. So the church had better be getting ready for it because it’s coming.
If you don’t think it can or will happen, I would like to suggest you are already behind the learning curve. It could well be that God’s wrath is being poured out on America even now because we have abandoned God for decades… so He is giving us over to our sin… He is allowing us to have what we want… He is withdrawing His hand of blessing and protection.
One thing churches had better do is place in their governing documents a statement that same sex marriages will not be performed by any minister on staff nor allowed to take place in the church or on church grounds. Don’t think separation of church/state will protect congregations for long, there are too many liberal judges that legislate from the bench. Not only that, president elect Obama favors same sex marriages in opposition to clear Biblical teaching (I don’t buy his dodge, “I’m personally against it BUT…”).
In the face of these things, the church (Christians) must not make enemies of those we’re called to reach with the Gospel. We are not to attack, vilify, malign, or denigrate homosexuals nor those who support their cause. We are called to love them with the love of Christ while opposing the idea they champion. Christians cannot make enemies of those we’re called to reach for Jesus. Only Biblical Love can overcome the militant attitudes and actions of others.
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for two reasons… homosexuality and mistreatment of the poor (Both of which are present in America). The Scripture is clear that homosexuality is an abomination to God. Click the links below to read the Scripture…
Lev 18:22; Lev 20:13; Ro 1:24-27; 1 Cor 6:9-10; 1 Tim 1:8-11; Jude 7
What is the moral future of America? Not good if what has been promised recently is brought about. However, regardless of the moral climate… the financial climate… or anything that might happen in our future, believers are to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel (Philippians 1:27).
UPDATE 11/11/08: Click here for an important followup.
Simply put – the Mormons have proved with their complete obsession with PROP 8 to be a Tax-Exempt Hate Group.
Heterosexuals – You better wake up. Instead of pondering a cerebral concept like how gays want the “1,138 rights of marriage”, you need to educate yourselves about the CONSEQUENCES when one or more of those 1,138 rights are denied.
Your laws HATE us, and we’ve had it! Yes, I did said HATE – I stand by it. Because how else can you explain these 3 realities?:
A police woman loses her life in the line of duty; her wife of 13 years is denied all pension benefits.
A rancher loses his husband of 22 years; his inlaws evict him and try to take the home he built and lived in with his beloved.
A detective spends 25 years risking her own life while protecting society; she has to spend her remaining days on this earth worrying whether her earned pension will be transferred to her wife (while living with terminal cancer).
YES, H-A-T-E. And your silence on this matter is a serious affront to our families’s safety and security. FAMILY – isn’t that a cherished concept in the U.S.A.?
So now after decades of disinterest, some of us in the LGBTI community have AWAKENED. And we will refuse to pay one penny of income tax to the IRS until the government (i.e. – you) decide you WANT our tax dollars as EQUAL CITIZENS.
This ain’t a vote. This ain’t a debate. This ain’t a popularity contest.
You will PAY OUR TAXES until we have what your family ALREADY HAS; your apathy is costing you money as you read this.
GAY TAX PROTEST!
John,
For the record, I’m not a Mormon. And you are right, family is a cherished concept. One that was ordained by God as one man and one woman for life. Societies that affirm, support, and protect traditional marriage honor God. Societies that don’t will lose God’s favor. This means that divorce is just as much a threat to traditional marriage as a redefinition of what marriage is. My prayer is that God will bring a spiritual revival and awakening that will heal all of America of our moral woes.
God bless you!
Note: For the record, I am just as much opposed… and condemn… the practices of pre-marital sex, fornication, and adultery as I do homosexuality. All four acts are equally sinful in the sight of God.
Ron–WOW! You sure like to condemn. Jesus, Himself, told Nicodemus, “For God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through Him.” John 3:17. When the leaders of the temple drug the harlot through the streets and demanded that Jesus order her to be stoned, Jesus concurred but added, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.” Oh we are so quick to judge and condemn but that is not what Christ has called His church to do. Christ has called His church to reach the lost for Him–that’s His plan of salvation. Isn’t it horrible that the gay community and the majority of society has come to hate the church? Why? Because the church uses its calling to condemn. Why can’t we be like the Acts 2 church? “and they began selling their property and possessions, and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need….. having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.” I would think we should be more concerned about reaching out to the lost in this way than in condemning them. Our families are not in peril; we aren’t in jeopardy of losing our children to homosexuality. But we are in jeopardy of doing non-repairable damage to the church in the eyes of those we were sent to save.
Duane,
Thanks for your comments. If you will read CLOSELY I wrote that I condemn the PRACTICES OF pre-marital sex, fornication, adultery, and homosexuality. I said nothing at all about condemning the person did I? There is nothing wrong, in fact it is right, to condemn sinful practices that violate clear Biblical mandates. Jesus didn’t die because of sins, he died to save sinners… people… the ones who commit sin. The only way a person can come to a realization that they need a savior is to understand their sin condition that manifests it’s self by their actions. So I submit my comment was correct.
My prayer is that the homosexual (As well as the fornicator, drunkard, adulterer, thief, liar, etc {See 1 Cor 6:9-11}) will repent of their sin and come to Christ. Because I know when that happens God will begin a process in them that will result in a holy life as they grow closer to Him.
As for your assessment that “a majority of society has come to hate the church,” that may be true of those you associate with, but not the majority of people in America nor the people I associate with (All of whom are not believers). The majority of people today are not repelled by Christianity, but they are troubled by the conduct of certain Christians. THAT I will agree with you on!
I’m not troubled so much for families as I am for the souls of those who do not know Christ. As it is written, “Without holiness no one will see God.”
As for the church being like Acts… I don’t know what kind of churches you are around, but the Christians Churches I know of are heavily involved in missions… ministry to the poor… clothing those who need it… marriage counseling and all kinds of social issues. I would say that by and large the church in America does a pretty good job of being like the one in Acts 2!
Bless you and thank you for your comment!
Ron
This isn’t about “H-A-T-E.”
It’s about how God sees marriage.
TO johnbisceglia:
The rights that mentioned in your rant about different situations are available now to all homosexual couples. You don’t need to change the definition of marriage in order to enjoy them.
My vote won’t change because it’s popular or because of social pressure. My vote will stay the same, because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Just like marriage between and a man and woman should be.
