This is a special day for more reasons than it is 10/10/10.  By God’s kindness, mercy, and grace I was given the blessing to preach in view of a call at Huffman Baptist Church as their Senior Pastor.  I have been in discussions with the Search Team for a number of months which culminated in meetings this Wednesday through Sunday.  I have met with church members and teams from the church on many different levels and settings, and each time it was a blessing for me.  (The picture is of HBC’s worship center)

The search team did their work diligently.  They checked me out backwards and forwards, inside and out… talking to people that were two or three times removed from the references I provided them… in every city I served if I’m not mistaken.  They checked my background financially, legally, and personally.  They asked other people questions about me on so many different topics it is certain that the Search Team left no stone unturned.  And they still continued the process of calling me to be the senior pastor (Snicker… wink)!

Huffman Baptist Church is a special place for me.  It is where I was baptized into Christ at the age of 10.  It is where my graduation from high school took place.  There are many people at HBC who knew me when I was younger.  Their children and I were friends.  One couple even knew my mom and dad when he attended Howard College {Now Samford University}.  As I have met God’s people at HBC I have been impressed and blessed with their love for God, their genuineness of faith, and joy in the Lord.  Personally, I am excited about what the future holds for us (People and Pastor).  May God’s will be done for His glory!

Now please know this… I am so thankful for all the Lord did and allowed in my life and family that made today possible!  Through many circumstances, and people, God accomplished wonderful things without which this day would never have happened… and I would have missed a tremendous blessing.  Every event was, and has been, good because God is good!  Praise be to HIS name!

If you’d like, you can read the message I delivered in view of a call to HBC.  It is titled, Jesus: The Good Shepherd.”  (Aside: Duke, God bless you my friend. Proverbs 18:24 is true of you.)
