David grew up at Huffman Baptist Church and is the son of  Bob & Diane.  God called David into ministry several years ago and for a while he served in Malaysia with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.  Now David is a partner with Youth Ministry International Asia.  I asked him to give me some information to share with the church and others through this blog.  Here’s what he sent me…

Huffman Baptist Church is the church where I was saved, called to ministry, and sent out to serve.  I started going there around 1981, when I was 11 years old.  I was fortunate to grow up in a Christian home where we regularly attended church and I was very involved in the life of HBC.  At the age of 19 I began questioning whether or not I had ever really given my life to Christ, so I made it clear at that time that I was giving my life to Him as my Lord as well as my Savior.  I immediately began working alongside Terry Slay with the youth.  I fell in love with youth ministry and, before I knew it, God was calling me to serve Him in full-time ministry.  God did a great deal in my life through the College/Career years.  There are many young men who were highly impacted by the ministry of Auston Young while in college.   I left HBC only to serve in a youth ministry position in another church.

After leaving HBC, I finished seminary at Beeson Divinity School and met Jenn soon afterwards.  We knew God was calling us into missions, so we began seeking how he would use us.  It turned out that I wasn’t leaving youth ministry, as I had previously thought.  He wanted to use me to train youth ministers on the mission field!  I worked on a Ph.D at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and then we took off for Southeast Asia.  God has blessed us greatly with our family.  We are blessed to have four incredible children: Corrie (8), Anna (5), Auston and Julie (twins – 2).

Pray for David, Jenn, Corrie, Anna, Auston and Julie.  Pray that God will use them powerfully in the years ahead.  Pray also that God will provide people to support him financially as he continues in ministry.
