Have you ever felt overwhelmed in listening to messages your pastor brings week after week?  It seems that one Sunday he delivers a message that calls for action in one area of life… then the next a different area… then Sunday after Sunday one call for action or repentance or obedience or confession until there are so many things you are hearing you need to do you ARE overwhelmed.  In fact, you become so overwhelmed that you give up trying to do all the things because they’re all just too much.

Well… here’s a suggestion to help overcome that.

Each Sunday… before you go into worship, or as you sit down for worship… ask God to reveal to you just one nugget of truth that HE wants you to apply.  Instead of taking notes on the whole message and trying the next week to apply everything you hear, apply just one thing.  That way you won’t be so overwhelmed and feel defeated you’re not living up to an unhealthy number of requirements.

All God requires of us is that we are becoming more like Christ each day.  As long as we are becoming more loving, more gracious, more forgiving, more merciful, more compassionate… we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing as believers.  And then don’t forget two thoughts Paul wrote…

Philippians 2:13 It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

1 Corinthians 15:10 By the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
