In Hebrews 11:6 it is written, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.” Let’s think through that verse…
Thought 1: When was the last time you engaged in something that required faith in God?
Thought 2: When was the last time you engaged in something that required complete reliance on God or else it wouldn’t happen?
Thought 3: When was the last time you sought God in relation to something you were attempting for His glory?
Thought 4: When was the last time you sought God believing with all your being that He will reward you?
If we are honest, most of us would have to say that given those conditions… it’s been a while (If ever). Most of us prefer to live in security and safety… with a net to catch us and a reserve parachute for “just in case.” But if we have back up plans… hesitations… reservations… or need a failsafe to make sure we’re successful, then that is not pleasing to God according to Hebrews 11:6!
Let me tell you where I am. I want to do something for God that the ONLY way it is successful is if God does it… if Godmakes it happen. I want to be involved in something that glorifies His name and when people see it they say… “I know Ron and it can’t be because of him it’s happening… it HAS to be a God thing!”
I want to live what William Carey said, “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” I want to be a part of something that people say can’t be done… is impossible… and won’t succeed… and then see God do it! I want to see God move sovereignly, powerfully, mightily, and convincingly… and be a part of it! I want God to use me in such a manner that people’s response is… “What a great God we serve!”
Nothing will bring me greater joy than until my dying day I am devotedly and passionately seeking to live a life that pleases God. I want with all my heart, mind, soul, and body to be involved in endeavors that rely 100% upon God from beginning to end… so that He will get all the glory!
What about you… are you pleasing God?
good thoughts ron. enjoyed reading them. i like that you turn the verse into a challenge. and i think by doing so you are right on.
Ron,
Thanks for posting over at Sanam Doctrinam.
I agree with you, but I believe that you are involved in a work already that requires this kind of faith and should garner the response that it is all a God thing. That is of course being a pastor!
We are called to an impossible task my friend, so any progress that is made in the pastorate can only be attributed to God and only He can be given the glory!
That said, as a pastor, I agree there needs to be more living like this in my life. This is the hope for my life as well!
I’ll give a hearty amen to your thoughts, Ron. We need His supply because our own is woefully inadequate. Thanks!
