I love reading the comments people make to posts I have.  Most are thoughtful and encouraging.  Some are challenging (I like those!).  Then some are downright hostile (These aren’t always approved).  Anyway… Some of the most frequent comments are to the posts I’ve written about preachers and teachers I consider to be off point when it comes to the Gospel.

Several people have commented that they don’t agree with everything some preachers say, but do agree with most of what they hear from them.  Mostly this has to do with the “Prosperity Gospel” preachers/teachers.  You know, the ones who say God wants you to be healthy and wealthy.  That God wants to bless you with material things.  They say that if you’ll plant a seed gift (Usually to their ministry)… and YOU have enough faith and believe… God will give you ten or hundred fold what you gave to them.

I have a HUGE problem with that!  That is NOT the Gospel and is a GROSS misrepresentation and misinterpretation of Scripture.  It is so off point from Biblical Truth that invalidates the other things they say that might have elements of truth in them.  Their heresy on this point is so dangerous I have no problem warning Christians not to listen to anything they say.  My reasoning… “A little heresy is not acceptable!”  Consider Galatians 1:6-9 where Paul wrote…

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7  not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

Paul’s point to the believers, ANY distortion of the Gospel invalidates everything else they say!  Paul was so serious about this he wished those people would emascualte themselves (Click for what that means).  That’s stout for Paul to go to that length… but protecting the purity of the Gospel is that important.  My perspective… 90% of what is said by a preacher/teacher says can be on point, but if they distort the Gospel on ONE point… they invalidate everything else they present and are to be ignored.  I know that sounds harsh… but keeping the Gospel pure and undefiled is that important to me.

I guess it’s like the parent who made a point to their children on this by baking cookies with them from scratch.  They mixed eggs… milk… flour… and sugar together in a bowl.  Then, just before they were to pour the mixture into the pan for baking… the parent reached down to where their pet had left a package on the floor (If you know what I mean) and added a small portion to the batter.  The kids screamed in horror… “MOM!  That’s nasty!  You’ve messed it up!”  The mom replied, “Don’t worry… I didn’t put much poo into it.  You’ll never know the difference.”  But the kids knew better… wouldn’t eat it… and got the point of the lesson.

A little heresy is NOT okay….
