The most solemn place in our nation for those who’ve fallen in battle is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  The Old Guard stands is present 24-7-365.  The Changing of the Guard is something to be admired.  I’ve thus far only been able to see it on TV or video… and it is impressive.  Those who guard The Tomb take this honor seriously.  Below you will see what happens when someone does not honor this hallowed place as they should.  Needless to say, after seeing this, I think I’ll be quiet, still, and not move around.

Why such responses?  Because those who’ve given their lives to preserve freedom are honored.  If a human’s sacrifice is held in such high esteem, how much more should the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus be held in much higher esteem?

In God’s House there needs to be reverence… an air of solemnity… an attitude of thankfulness… awe over Who the worship service honors.  Frivolity is out of place.  There IS proper and improper conduct for all in attendance.  Worship is all about God.  Honoring Him… glorifying Him… praising Him… worshipping Him.

I am thankful for those who gave their lives for my earthly freedom… but much more thankful for the One (Jesus Christ) who died, and is now alive, to secure my eternal freedom.  I am patriotic, but my patriotism will never take the place of my faith in God through Jesus Christ.  The cross will always fly higher than any national flag.
