Several have asked about the passage of Scripture I used in the wedding service Saturday. I used it once before as an illustration by request about ten years ago.  The concept is that the couple braids one purple chord with two white chords while the Scripture from Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 is read.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him-a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

The illustration is that, like written in Scripture, three are stronger than one. When a husband and wife weave Christ into their marriage, they are not only stronger… they have the strength of God Himself sustaining them. The couple is represented by the white chords and Christ by the purple chord.
