whitfield  You can tell a lot about your pastor by observing his worship.  You will know a lot about his passion, devotion, and love for God by watching him worship.  You will be able to tell whether or not he loves God with all his heart, mind, soul, and body by what he does in worship.

Next time your pastor is worshipping, here’s what I suggest you do… in fact… what the whole congregation ought to do:

1. Stare at him…

2. Take notes on what he’s doing…

3. Don’t say much unless it is necessary…

4. Write down what you see and hear…

5. Talk about those things with your family and other church members after he gets through worshipping.

As a pastor with a little experience, the time I worship the best is in the act of preaching.  Did you get that… Preaching IS worship for the pastor!  Preaching is also worship for the congregation too.

Worship is not everything up to the preaching event… all those things are to set the table for the preaching event which is the proclamation of God’s Word.  God has determined that the preaching of His Word is the central event in congregational worship because it is an exposition and explanation of His Word.

Therefore, if you want to know how much your Pastor loves God… loves His Word… Loves Jesus… and Loves God’s People… watch him worship in the preaching event!  And do forget the five things I suggested above.
