Knowing God’s will is not difficult.  He clearly reveals it in Scripture.  The question is whether or not we choose to do it… period.  Whether it is in a time of blessing and prosperity or hardship and tribulation… God expects the same things and they do not change.

“Whatever happens, conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the Gospel” (Phil 1:27).

“So whether you eat or drink, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor 10:31).

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  38 This is the great and first commandment.  39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  40  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets” (Mt 22:37-40).  “If I… have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have…  not love, I am nothing. 3  If I… have… not love, I gain nothing (1 Cor 13:1-3).

Three expectations: 1) Conduct worthy of the Gospel, 2) Glorify God, 3) Always motivated by love.

Regardless of the situation God has three expectations: Conduct worthy of the Gospel… glorify Him… motivated by love. At work… three expectations. Inter-personal relationships… three expectations. In prosperity… three expectations. In hardship… three expectations. In health or sickness… joy or weeping… working or playing… at church… at home… in crowds… by yourself… ballgames, vacation… everywhere at all times: THREE EXPECTATIONS. Conduct worthy of the Gospel, Glorify God, Motivated by love.

A Case Study: Taking The Hit (Click here to read the situation from 1 Corinthians 6:1-8).

Paul writes to the Corinthians who were at odds with each other in v 7… “Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?” Paul writes to them it is better to take the hit… lose… get a black eye… even though going to court would prove they were right!  The reason is that God’s glory is more important than winning.  The reputation of the Gospel is more important than financial gain.  Loving God and others is more important than being proved right.  God’s Kingdom came first!

Questions to ask and answer honestly: 1) Will my actions reflect the Gospel of Jesus Christ?  2) Will my actions glorify God?  3) Will my actions show love for God and others?  (Pause)  If the answer is “no” to any or all of these, then we know God’s will.  If the answer is yes to them all… we know God’s will.
