I’m not one to cry the sky is falling when it comes to Last Things or the Return of Christ. I don’t think the mark of the beast is a bar-code and I’m not really sure how close, or far away, the return of Christ is.
Yet I found an interesting article about a one world government that was not written by an evangelist with big hair and a chart behind him (Snicker, Wink!). If you like, you can click here to read the article.
Here’s one quote…
Some European thinkers think that they recognise what is going on. Jacques Attali, an adviser to President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, argues that: “Global governance is just a euphemism for global government.” As far as he is concerned, some form of global government cannot come too soon. Mr Attali believes that the “core of the international financial crisis is that we have global financial markets and no global rule of law”.
So, it seems, everything is in place. For the first time since homo sapiens began to doodle on cave walls, there is an argument, an opportunity and a means to make serious steps towards a world government.
But let us not get carried away. While it seems feasible that some sort of world government might emerge over the next century, any push for “global governance” in the here and now will be a painful, slow process.
Further along it is written…
The world’s most pressing political problems may indeed be international in nature, but the average citizen’s political identity remains stubbornly local. Until somebody cracks this problem, that plan for world government may have to stay locked away in a safe at the UN.
Hal Lindsey, Jack Van Impe, and John Hagee are convinced the European Union (EU) is the alliance, and a forerunner to a one world government, from which the Antichrist will come. They could be right… or completely wrong. Only time will tell. But they will point to the sentence I underlined above. They will say that the Antichrist will be the one to “crack the problem.”
A one world government would not be good for Christians. Different languages and governments and political parties are good things for the christian church. They have prevented a world-wide effort to persecute exterminate Christ followers. And one day… if Lindsey, Van Impe, and Hagee are right… the presence of a one world government will make life difficult for believers.
Resposne? Be ready! No matter what happens, when it happens, or how it happens… be ready for the return of Christ! The way to be ready is to know Christ as Lord and Savior.
Why would a world government be bad for Christians? Aren’t you a majority in the world? Don’t Christians control the most powerful military force in the world? Why are you worried? And if the so-called ‘Antichrist’ can remove petty and destructive nationalistic identities, is he really so bad? Sorry I’m basically raving, but all I see when I read the words “World Government” is “World Peace”.
Thanks for your comment “Pro.” Rave on as you desrie. As a follow up let me suggest that Christians have no fear of either a one world government nor the antichirst. As far as whatever military you are referring to, military might is meaningless. As far as I’m concerned God is… and will always be… in absolute, total, and complete control of all the events in this world. We do look forward to “world peace” but that will only happen when Jesus Christ sets up His eternal kingdom on earth. The peace you refer to from a so called antichrist would only be temporary in my view.
I think at one time Alfred Lord Tennyson, Cecil John Rhodes, John Ruskin, Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, George Bernard Shaw……ETC….they and those like them wanted to have this world government and they tried hard to put the wheels in motion for that to happen but it all went wrong some where. I think the elite of the world have given up on that dream. It’s not possible there’s just too much overwhelming stuff to bicker and argue about. Oh yea, thank y’all for allowing SEVEN BILLION people to be born. That’s going to be interesting to see how seven billion people make this experiment work.
