Okay… I baited you with the title… but not by much. Let me explain…
Jesus one time made a startling statement to His disciples. It is found in John 16:7 (Emphasis mine)…
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.
Jesus is in essence saying… “I’ve been with you several years now… but if I stay with you, you’ll miss out! You see, it is better for you that I go so that the Holy Spirit will come to you.” NOW THINK!
If it is to a person’s advantage to have one person (Holy Spirit) rather than another (Jesus), does that mean the former is better than the latter? Well… I must say emphatically the answer is no, the Holy Spirit is not “better” than Jesus… but it IS better for us that the Holy Spirit is now present and Jesus is in heaven. But how?
When Jesus said those words He was bound by His humanity… the physical body (This was before the resurrection). When Jesus ascended to heaven and the Holy Spirit came (At Pentecost), He (The Spirit) was not bound by human bonds. He is all the embodiment of God the Father (All knowing… all-powerful… omnipresent). That means The Spirit was everywhere at one time. He resided in every believer at the same time… which Jesus couldn’t do in His human form.
Consequently… every Christian has the Spirit of God dwelling in them. They have access to His power. He comforts them. He never leaves them. He reveals God’s truth to them personally. He works in them to conform them to the image of Christ. He brings with Him His fruits (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Self Control, etc).
Now that’s a blessing!
