chocolate-syrupEngineers designed automobiles to run on gasoline, not chocolate syrup. They determined gasoline is best for the machine to run efficiently. Anything other than gasoline reduces the engine’s effectiveness. Likewise God designed us with His standard of morality (“gasoline”). To act contrary to The Designer’s rules is the same as putting chocolate syrup in an auto rather than gasoline… and consequences result. As it is written in Galatians 6:7-8…

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

We are designed to love God and others as ourselves. We are designed to honor our parents… to keep the Sabbath holy… not to lie… not to steal… not to murder… not to covet. When we violate God’s rules (Exodus 20:3-17) consequences always follow. The conscience God placed in us results in what we call “feeling guilty.” Our joy leaves us. Over time we become emotionally cold, hard, self-consumed, and unloving.

God designed humans to be heterosexuals in a monogamous relationship for life. Anything contrary is “chocolate syrup.” God designed us to speak the truth in love. Anything contrary is “chocolate syrup.” God designed us to forgive rather than hold grudges. Anything else is “chocolate syrup.” Each day we are tempted to substitute God’s commands with “chocolate syrup” (Our preference versus obedience to God). However…

Gods commands are for when we are tempted. To break God’s laws for sake of convenience means the commandments are of no worth. God’s commands are FOR our good. They are not to steal our joy, but to enhance it. They are not to prevent happiness, but to insure it. They are not to beat us down, but to lift us up.

Chocolate syrup and gasoline are only good when used in the proper context. And the same is true for the morality God has given us… for our good… to honor Him.
