The BEST gage of our love for God is how we spend our money.

Really?  Isn’t that kind of harsh?  It is recorded in Matthew 6:24 that Jesus said…

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.

Generous giving is applauded, affirmed, and encouraged in the New Testament.  The widow gave everything she had.  Zacchaeus gave half of everything he had AND paid people back four times what he took from them.  Then there were the Macedonians who were afflicted and poor, yet gave joyfully beyond their ability.  In Acts… when someone had a need… they sold their possessions and gave the income to those in need!

Every time a person is saved… transformed… and their sins forgiven by Christ, they become generous!

If we what to know how much love we have for God, all we have to do is look at how we spend our money.  Either we’re investing it in the Kingdom for eternal rewards OR we are wasting it on things we’ll leave behind when we die and will one day perish.

So… I guess we should go look at our check register huh?
