In this post I want to make it as simple as I can about what it takes to escape being a lukewarm Christian.

First… you have to want to be out of the condition.

Second… God is the only one who can take you out of a lukewarm condition.

Third… Both of the first two thoughts are brought together in a passage of Scripture.  It is a prayer of David’s and is found in Psalm 51:10-12…

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Note: A pure heart is God’s creation.

Note: It is proper to ask God for a pure heart.

Note: A steadfast spirit is also God’s creation.

Note: It is proper to ask God for a steadfast spirit.

Note: It is proper to ask God to restore the JOY of salvation.

Note: A willing spirit is also God’s creation.

Note: It is proper to ask God for a willing spirit.

Note: The terms “Create in me,” “Renew,” and “Restore” all point back to a time when those things were presesnt and imply they can be reclaimed.

Note: A willing spirit, created by God in us, sustains us even when we are in the desert.

Conclusion: To escape lukewarm Christianity seek God through prayer offering up these requests!
