Has Jesus broken into your life with such power that He overwhelmed you and as a result you surrendered your life to Him?  I’m not talking about some greeting card drivel type encounter, but one that left no doubt about three things: 1) Jesus is God.  2) Without Him in your life you are damned forever?  3) You surrendered your life completely to Him?  Consider what is written in John 1:45-51…

Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”  48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”  49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”  51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

We don’t know what was going on with Nathanael when he was under that fig tree, but it was so significant that Jesus mentioning it transformed his life forever.  Salvation is based on such encounters and without them people will doubt their conversion.  The point is that until a person has experienced what some might call and “Ah Ha!” moment… a realization of who Christ is and their need of Him… they may have had an emotional experience or religious encounter, but they haven’t met The Christ.

What was your burning bush… Damascus Road… still small voice?  Have you metaphorically sat under a fig tree?

If you haven’t… consider that every day God is calling you and maybe today will be your fig tree or burning bush event.  When it happens, you will know.  There will be no doubt.
