sinfunThere is one reason people sin… it is fun (At first). But sin is back-loaded. What seems fun in the beginning leads to destruction and disaster in the end. As it is written in Pr 9:13…

The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive… 14 She sits at the door of her house… 15 calling to those who pass by… 16 And to him who lacks sense she says, 17  “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” 18 But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

A one night stand… skimming profits at work… internet porn… chat room romance… a white lie here and half truth there. What’s the harm… it’s all in good fun, right? After all, everyone has to sow their wild oats. Others may fall, but not you! Oh no. You’re different. Stronger. Better. Wiser… and blind. You forget that the pleasures of sin are fleeting (Heb 11:25), they are like a wisp of smoke in a hurricane.

John Piper is quoted as saying, “God does not kill joy. He kills sin. That is, he kills what will finally kill all joy.” The reason God gave His commands was not to be a kill joy, but to insure joy… REAL joy. Everlasting joy. Absolute joy… in Him (Jesus).

God is not mocked. Whatever a person sows they will also reap… worse than whatever you sow! When God messes with your life and seems to be tearing it up, know that He is destroying your idols. The things that you love that are not good for you. The things that over time will eat you up from the inside out. Sure, it is painful and difficult and hard, but in the end His discipline (Destruction of your idols) will bear good fruit! As it is written in Heb 12:10-11…

He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
