I just got through reading in The Valley of Vision… Section Six: Approach To God… Titled simply: In Prayer.  And I quote…

In prayer I launch far out into the eternal world, and on that broad ocean my soul triumphs over all evils on the shores of mortality.  Time with it’s… amusements and cruel disappointment, never appears so inconsiderate as then.  In prayer all things here below vanish, and nothing seems important but holiness of heart and the salvation of others.  In prayer all my wordly cares, fears, anxieties disappear, and are of as little significance as a puff of wind.  In prayer I am lifted above the frowns and flatteries of life, and taste heavenly joys; entering into the eternal world I can give myself to Thee with all my heart, to be thine forever.

It struck me as I was reading this that prayer is truely an eternal encounter with the eternal God.  In prayer this life slips away, for just a little while, as meaningless when compared to the vastness of God’s activity.  Through prayer I join with God in His everlasting plan…. His comprehensive will… His infinite work.  When I pray the things I hold dear in this life lose thier weight… my anxious thoughts vanish… my burdens are lifted… all because I enter the presence of the Eternal God.  Prayer is the most intimate time I have with God for it is then that His Spirit communes with my spirit in inexpressible conversations of blessing and encouragement.

My encouragement to you tonight is this… pray.  Pray without ceasing.  Pray in the morning, afternoon, and evening.  Pray as you drive… as you work… as you relax… as you go to bed.  For then you stay in constant communication with The Great Jehovah God.
