Georgia v South CarolinaThis fall I am officiating football. So far one thing has really jumped out at me… how much coaches see the OTHER team’s mistakes while overlooking their own! I constantly hear: “Hey ref, they’re holding… they moved… they interfered… they jumped.” I have yet to have a coach say, “Hey ref, you missed that call on uswe’re in the neutral zone… we have 12 on the field… why don’t you penalize us as much as you do them?” Consider Romans 2:1…

Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who do such things and yet do them yourselfthat you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

Officials call what they see and see what they call. A player/team can “get away with” a foul if I don’t throw my flag. However, God sees and records everything. Just because he doesn’t “throw his flag” at the present time and “penalize” (Punish) the person now doesn’t mean it won’t be brought up later. Be careful how harsh and how often you condemn others, it WILL come back on you!
