Those who drink alcohol to excess are fools.  I know… my dad’s passing was the direct result of alcoholism and drunkenness.  I’ve heard all the arguments about drinking not being a sin… and I agree… unless it causes someone to stumble.  In my world, if a person drinks enough to “catch a buzz,” they’ve gone too far already and are setting themselves up to have a drinking problem.  I write that because we are all the kings and queens of rationalizing and justifying our actions (Read that again).  The destruction alcohol causes knows no boundaries… my dad was a pastor (And yes, I do struggle over 1 Cor 6:9-10).  In a previous post I struggled with what Paul wrote (1 Cor 6:9-10) where it’s written that drunkenness consigns a person to hell.

Even in the animal kingdom, the effects of drunkenness are obvious… though unintended.  Humans on the other hand know the effects of drinking to excess… which is warned against in Proverbs 23:29-35… (Thanks Stu)

Who has woe? Who has sorrow?  Who has strife? Who has complaining?  Who has wounds without cause?  Who has redness of eyes?  30 Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine.  31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.  32 In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder.  33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things.  34 You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast.  35 “They struck me,” you will say, “but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it.  When shall I awake?  I must have another drink.”
