Odd title, but the two are linked. Every time Satan attacks or tests a believer, God pours out abundant grace to more than stop the darts hurled in hopes of destruction. As John Piper says, “Satan is God’s pawn for our sanctification.” Every time Satan attempts our destruction he fails because The Holy Spirit and Jesus pray for believers (Ro 8:26, 34).
He knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold (Job 23:10). Suffering is to Christians as fire is to gold, it makes the believer more like Jesus… it burns away sin… it rids of unrighteousness… and it lays up treasures in heaven. If he knew what each test accomplishes in a believer I’m not sure he would continue his defeated battle plan. But alas, haters are going to hate… so all he knows to do is attack.
Be sure that in EVERY trial, God will comfort the genuine believer. As it is written in 2 Cor 1:3-7…
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. 6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
