Left RightWould you put your future and that of your family completely in the hands of another person… one with selfish motives and desires? This is not a hypothetical question. Would you choose to have another person (Or group) make a decision that would determine the trajectory of the rest of your life?

Ratchet it up… should you trust yourself absolutely, completely, without reservation, that you will make THE right decision when everything rides on it? Are you infallible? Incapable of blowing it when all the chips are down?

The question, “Who do you trust?” addresses a foundational belief you have about God. Most are convinced they MUST be in control of people and situations, otherwise what is best for them is minimized if not impossible. When a threat manifests its self the political manipulations begin… sides are drawn… plans put into place… and the same are carried out.

That is not the was Christians should live. Believers are to “live by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7). Consider one man who put his future in the hands of another person and the decision he made. Abram and Lot from Genesis 13:8…

Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.”

Lot chose a well watered plain with promise of financial prosperity… AKA Sodom and Gomorrah. Abram was supposedly left out in the cold. Lot lived out the truth of James 4:1-3…

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?  2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

Is it wise to have so much faith in God that you put your future in the hands of another… one who is selfish… ungodly… who you are 99% sure couldn’t care less about how their decision affects you? It all depends on your view of God, His providence and sovereignty.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding… (Pr 3:5)

Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ (Is 46:9-10)

Honor God and He will honor you (1 Sam 2:30-b)

Again… who do you trust?
