Question: What can God do? (Pause)  Follow up: Why?  (Pause)

When God wants to, He can shut this world down with less than the nod of His head.  He can shut down a nation… a continent… all financial markets… the entire globe…. and/or the entire universe!  And there is not one thing any human being can do to stop Him nor do they have the right to question God’s actions.  Why?  He’s God…

When God wants to He can also: Restore… heal… raise up… bless… strengthen… give power… and grant great fortune… to whoever He desires to.  Why?  He is God…

This is affirmed by Hannah’s prayer as found in 1 Samuel 2…

My heart exults in the Lord; my strength is exalted in the Lord.  My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. 2 There is none holy like the Lord; there is none besides You; there is no rock like our God.

The Lord kills and brings to life; He brings down to Sheol (The grave) and raises up.  7 The Lord makes poor and makes richHe brings low and He exalts. 8 He raises up the poor from the dust; He lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor.  For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them He has set the world.

9 He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness, for not by might shall a man prevail. 10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; against them He will thunder in heaven. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth; He will give strength to His king and exalt the power of His anointed.

There’s a scene in Forrest Gump when Lt. Dann questions the reality of God after which Forrest comments… “Then God showed up.”  In the following scene a hurricane pummles the boat they’re in. Our God IS God and He can do whatever He decides to do and none of us has the right to question Him or His motives.  This applies to the world HE made and those who HE allows to live in HIS universe.  As written in Romans 9:14…

Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! 15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 18 He has mercy on whomever He wills, and He hardens whomever He wills.  20 Who are you, O man, to answer back to God? 22 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honored use and another for dishonorable use?

I take verse 15 as God saying… “I can do whatever I desire… period.”  So I must ask again… What can God do and why?  The answers: Anything… Because He is God.  As we find written in the Scriptures…

Deuteronomy 10:14 Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it.

Job 41:10 (God speaking to Job) No one is so fierce that he dares to stir Him up. Who then is he who can stand before Me? 11 Who has first given to Me, that I should repay him?  Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine.

Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, 2 for He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.

Daniel 4:34 I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored Him who lives forever, for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation; 35 all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand or say to Him, “What have you done?”

What can God do and why?  The answers: Anything… Because He is God.
