bruised_reedAfter the last two posts, it is proper to tell the end of the matter from Isaiah 57:14-19 and 42:3.

Jehovah God is a God of hope! When things are hard and difficult, there is hope in Him. When we struggle, there is hope in Him. When times are confusing and difficult, He is a God of hope. There is NEVER a time when all hope is lost. Regardless of how broken, beat up, and wounded a person is… God declares He Will Heal! But only a certain kind of person is healed by God.

Is 57:15. While God is holy, high, and unapproachable… there is a particular kind of person He is with. This person has the power of God infused into their life in a way that is different from everyone else. It is the person who is: A) Contrite, and B) Lowly. Contrite means the person who is crushed. The person who has been beaten down. The person who is deeply wounded. Lowly is a person who doesn’t promote themselves. A person who doesn’t push themselves on others. A person who is a servant. But that’s not all… This person is BOTH contrite AND lowly. They are broken AND humble… crushed AND unassuming… deeply wounded AND gracious.

THOSE are the people… the contrite AND lowly… that God will HEAL. It may seem that the brokenness is absolute, it may seem that the candle’s fire has gone out… but GOD binds up the wounded, He heals the hurting, he never destroys those who are His own.

Take God At His Word!

And it shall be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people’s way.” For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite. For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry; for the spirit would grow faint before me, and the breath of life that I made. Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry, I struck him; I hid my face and was angry, but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart. I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners, creating the fruit of the lips. Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the Lord, “and I will heal him.” (Is 57:14-19)

A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench… (Is 42:3)
