That question means a lot of things depending on where you live. In the South it refers to what time Christians gather for worship. In some countries “time” more refers to whenever you get to the location where God’s people are… there is an acceptable window of time of an hour or more either way. What I find interesting is how Paul answered the question of worship time in Romans 14:5-6, 7-10…

One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself.8 If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother?

The Early Church at first followed Jewish worship command of “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.” The Sabbath was Saturday. So at first early Christians gathered on the Sabbath, or Saturday. But over time a change began to take place. Because Jesus was resurrected on SUNDAY rather than Saturday, Christians began worship on the first day of the week… Sunday… to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.

This became an issue of contention for some because it was a break from not only tradition, but it violated one of the Ten Commandments. So Paul addresses the issue in the above text and sets forth what is proper regarding when to worship. He gave three options: First, Worship on Saturday. Second, Worship on Sunday. And Third, worship every day! The point was to worship and not condemn believers who followed a new concept of worship. Jesus even addressed it was not even WHERE worship took place that mattered (John 4:21-24)…

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

So if/when God’s people assemble on Tuesday night for study, prayer, and worship… that is acceptable. If/when God’s people assemble on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:00 or 11:00… that is acceptable. Here’s a thought… It is acceptable for God’s people to worship Sunday (Saturday?) in the morning and at night… or only the morning or only at night! We might need to go back and read Paul in from Romans 14…

Personally, I think all our life should be worship (Romans 12:1-2). I think we should gather regularly to worship with brothers and sisters in Christ. I think the point is that we are to worship God alone… in small groups… and as congregations. Thus, Do Not Neglect Worship!
