We all want to be successful… recognized as competent… at the top of our game… the “go to” person for expert answers. But what if that isn’t God’s will for you in life? What if God’s will and call is for you to serve in obscurity? The majority of God’s people will NOT be high profile servants (Oxymoron?). They will NOT be put in positions to be well known. Jesus said as much through Paul as recorded in 1 Cor 1:26-29…
Consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
Wherever you are, serving in whatever capacity, to whatever degree that comes about… this is the will and providence of God! HE is the one who equipped you exactly as you are to do exactly what you do… whatever that may be. Every Christian is clay in God’s hands to make as He chooses (Is 29:16; 41:25; 64:8; Jer 18:3-6; Ro 9:19-23 {!}).
Since Jesus purchased us… bought us with his life, He has the right to assign to us whatever He chooses! Whether it be for “honorable” or “dishonorable” use. BEFORE our assignment is given we are to be like Isaiah who said, “Here I am… SEND ME!” Where doesn’t matter. What the future holds in meaningless. Human views of our success or failure aren’t considered. All the faithful disciple wants to do is be obedient to his call.
It may be your call is similar to Abrams when God said, “Go to the place that I will show you...” You won’t be given any answers to questions you may have because that would mean you wouldn’t be living by faith and trust in God! Instead you leave everything and follow God’s call to spread and/or minister the Gospel in whatever way God leads with whatever consequences transpire.
The hope Christ followers have is whether they ride the wave of God’s blessing OR live in caves of hardship and persecution… God is sovereign and the faithful servant IS IN THE HALL OF FAITH!
What kind of clay are you?
