Every person who lives struggles with depression at one time or another.  Some more often and deeper than others.  Life is difficult and it is rare a person can go many years… much less months or sometimes weeks… without finding themselves downcast.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon gave a lecture to his ministerial students that dealt with depression.  While it has to do with “The Minister’s Fainting Fits,” the principals he discusses are universal and can be of great help to all.  Thus I have provided a link for those who would like to read it.  But first, a few passages of Scripture for help and encouragement.  These are some of the ones I turn to when I’m struggling!

Need Help.jpg  Ps 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?  Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation 6 and my God.  My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you.  8 By day the Lord cmmands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.  11  Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?  Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

  Ps 103:1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.  11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.  13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. 14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

  Ps 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.  2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

  Ps 40:16 May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!”  17 As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me.  You are my help and my deliverer;
do not delay, O my God!
