My daughter Amy is attending Auburn majoring in speech disorders. That means my money goes to the plains. It also means that my daughter’s heart is devoted to the school. She bought me a car tag that says… “Auburn Dad” (Which I’ll keep on my truck). My son Trey bought me a Fossil watch with the Auburn Logo on it (And I’ll continue to wear it). I made a two year attempt to be an Auburn fan. I went to an Auburn football game yesterday (They lost to Mississippi State). I enjoyed the game even though Auburn lost. I say all that to say this… I have tried to be an Auburn football fan. I really did try…
BUT…
I grew up pulling for the Crimson Tide. My earliest memories of football had to do with Bear Bryant… National and SEC championships… listening to them on the radio and watching them on TV. And last night I watched the Alabama Arkansas game on TV. I have to admit to being MUCH more emotionally involved in the game. When Bama went up by 21 in the first quarter, I was elated. As the hogs took the lead I was extremely frustrated. Then when Bama scored to win I was more than elated… I was EXTREMELY JOYFUL! And it was then I realized… I am an Alabama fan. Always have been and always will be.
For me there is just something about Alabama football. When I went to watch a game two years ago when my nephew was on the team, there was just something different about it. The band… the introductions… the history… the excitement… all those things were just different in Tuscaloosa than in Auburn. It’s the same for those who bleed Orange and Blue. A leopard just cannot change his spots outside the power of God (And a bunch of leopards can’t change their spots either!).
Still… I am just an Alabama football fan. Jesus said… “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I guess that applies to who you pull for on Saturday. All year I will pull for both Alabama and Auburn to win… until they play each other. Then I guess I’ll have a crimson and white shaker…
Well~I guess somebody has to be first to leave a comment. This is one of those things we will have to agree to disagree on. But I will leave you with one of my favorite little poems…
You can’t get to heaven in a red canoe, ‘Cause God’s favorite colors are ORANGE & BLUE!
WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!
Alison…
You are right that God’s favorite colors are orange and blue… but I do think that only “The Crimson Tide” made it into the Baptist Hymnal! War Eagle… till they play Bama. And even then I have a soft place in my heart for the Tigers… Tommy T… and yes, Brandon Cox (Been there… done that… wasn’t fun!).

What a can of worms to open up!!!!!
Thank you for your comment! But at least I’m not saying it from the pulpit NOR do I have those pictures you referred to on the wall in my office as some have done! Plus, there are probably not that many people who will read this old blog… and those that do will certainly understand. After all… at least I was bold enough to consider the other side. At least I considered the possibility that maybe I was brought up “wrong.” At least I’m not “agin ’em” all the time and I will do my best not to be one of those obnoxious Alabama or Auburn fans we all know about… that I love dearly… with all my heart (Did I cover my bases enough?). Bless you BECAUSE you are a Tennessee fan! Maybe I need to try “Rocky Top” since the orange up there may have one up on Alabama and Auburn. Who knows?

ROLL TIDE ROLL !!!!! ’nuff said.
I understand where you are coming from. I actually grew up and Auburn fan and when to Auburn for 2 quarters. After visiting my friends in Tuscaloosa I thought I would enjoy going to Alabama more. I went there for 3 greats years. There is no place like Tuscaloosa on Game Day. Roll Tide Roll.
