Today is Maunday Thursday. On this day four events are remembered: The washing of the Disciples feet, The Last Supper, the agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and the betrayal of Judas.
“Maunday” would best be translated to mean… “Mandate.” It reminds believers that Jesus gave a mandate to the Apostles as he washed their feet which was… “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
The reading for today would include… John 13:1 to John 18:12.
As you read and reflect upon this passage of Scripture, consider carefully what was happening and what would happen. Specially that as these events transpired Jesus was working to provide salvation.
Read S-L-O-W-L-Y.
Reflect upon what you read (2 Timothy 2:7).
Thank God for what He has done!
I have a lot of Methodist and Episcopal friends who celebrate Maunday Thursday and Holy Week. I have often wished that Baptist would celebrate these Holy Day and make them a part of our worship. Why don’t we?
I think there are many reasons, none of them good, for why all Baptists do not observe Holy Week. I can tell you that I am planning now for WABC to observe this time next year (God willing). That means we’ll probably have a special service on Good Friday in 2008… if the Lord tarries.
Bless you!
