Recently I had the joy of filling in for a friend on Wednesday night. At the same time I was trying to encourage some family members in their walk with God. By providence, they live close to the church where I filled in. They had told family they were going to church that Wednesday night… where I was (Without knowing I’d be there)… but they decided not to attend. When I told them later I was there that night they were disappointed… now a lesson.

I’m not God… but I do represent Him when I speak at a church. That the individuals decided not to attend… and found out we didn’t get to hook up because they weren’t present… and they were disappointed. Here’s the point: You never know when you miss church what you might miss that would be a blessing. It could be a joyful family encounter OR a supernatural encounter with God Himself. For example…

Isaiah went to worship one day… just like every other day… but THAT particular day was unique, GOD SHOWED UP! Consider the following from Is 6:1-8…

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:  “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” 4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for. 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
Isaiah went to “church” expecting it to be the same as every other day… except for THIS day, GOD actually showed up! He encountered God Almighty… and his life was changed. He had the proverbial “Burning Bush” experience. It is a good thing Isaiah chose to worship in God’s House on that particular day.
Could it be that the one day you decide to skip church you miss a life changing moment? The answer is… only God knows! So I would encourage you never to miss a time of corporate worship. Who knows… you just might actually encounter God!
