Wow… talk about freedom!  Talk about a stress reducer!  Talk about ease!  Talk about relaxation!  Talk about charging up my batteries!  I’m taking a Sunday off and not going to church anywhere (And no… I don’t think that is a sin.).  Let me explain…

Friday I was at Wally World checking out and mentioned to the cashier that the laziest song I’d ever heard was Otis Redding’s “Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay” (I was just trying to make conversation).  Instead she said, “Oh no!  That’s not a song about being lazy… it’s about soaking up God’s creation.  It’s about taking time to reflect and get ready for what’s coming tomorrow!”  Or at least that was her interpretation.

I had never thought of it that way before and in part maybe she was right.  There IS a time for everything… including rest and relaxation.  It is written in Mark 6:31, “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”  As many others have said before, “Sometimes the most godly thing you can do is take a nap.”

Well… with that in mind… listen to the song and find some time to get away, by yourself, with Jesus, to a quiet place and get some rest!  That is certainly what I’m dong this Lord’s day… May 25th… 2008!

Note!  If you read the lyrics from the link above, don’t think I’m anywhere near his thoughts!  I have EVERYTHING to live for!!  The part of the song I identify with is the tone of relaxing and resting.  Enjoy!
