Psalm 133:1, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”
I was having lunch recently when I was asked… “What are three good things about Huffman Baptist Church.” (I’ll give you my knee jerk response at the end). My answer to that question can’t be put into A sentence… or three bullet points… or pithy phrases. I don’t think as quickly as I used to and I’m not wired to communicate that way. If I had started recounting good things about Huffman Baptist Church I’d get passionate… emotional… and probably come off sounding proud. So I came back to my office and easily wrote down the following…
Q: “What about Huffman Baptist Church encourages or blesses you?” A: For starters…
There are more youth and adults at HBC involved in the organized prayer ministry than any church I’ve served (51% of those who attend)…
I’ve never served more people that love Jesus and each other than those who attend HBC…
I’ve never been around more people in a particular church who desired to grow in their faith…
There is a prevailing joy in the Lord in a great majority of people at HBC…
HBC is a church that loves to hear God’s Word proclaimed…
They allow me the time needed for prayer and preparation to deliver God’s Word…
The membership is actively involved in weekly missions in Birmingham…
A higher percentage of the membership is faithful in financial giving than any church I’ve served…
They are gracious and patient with those who have glaring faults (Which includes me, their Pastor)…
(I hope this one makes sense) I’ve met more people per capita at HBC that desire to be holy and godly…
The membership is committed and dedicated to being a vital and healthy congregation in difficult times…
Every member of HBC is a source of great joy to me and my family (Okay, that one is a little selfish).
Those are just the beginnings of the reasons I love Huffman Baptist Church. These things just scratch the surface of what is good about Huffman Baptist Church!
Oh… my knee jerk answer was: We don’t have ANY debt! That is a good thing for us… given this economy. Past that… it takes more than a sound bite to recount how God has blessed me to serve God’s servants at Huffman Baptist Church.
Blessed!
Amen!
