It is written in Mark 6:31 of the NIV that Jesus said… “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, (Jesus) said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'”

People have always been “busy.”  Just because we live in America in the midst of massive technology does NOT mean we are any different from those who’ve lived before us.  Those in Jesus day… 2100 years ago… were so busy “they did not have time to eat!”  We may have electricity, cell phones, and the internet… but they were under pressure and stress as much as any of us.

The answer to stress is the same today as it was for those of Jesus’ day.  Look at it closely.  Jesus said, “Come with me… by yourselves… to a quiet place… and get some rest.”  Simple.  Straight forward.  Clear.  Available to every and anyone.

With Jesus.  Sound strangle similar to Matthew 11:28-30 where it is written, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  Maybe… just maybe… we should listen to Jesus, believe Him, and follow His prescription!

Solitude.  Being still.. alone… is a good environment to hear from God.

Quiet.  There are too many distractions today.  Internet… cell phones… noise… and sometimes the roar of distraction covers over the gentle whispers from God.

Rest.  As a friend of mine has said, “Sometimes the Godliest thing you can do is take a nap!”  God built the need for rest into us.  To neglect rest is to neglect something God ordained for our good.  Try it.
