FlagIn athletic events there are men dressed in black and white striped shirts to make sure no one cheats. They penalize a team if they on purpose, or by accident, break the rules and thereby gain an unfair advantage over the other team. Most teams play fair and don’t knowingly break the rules. Others do it on purpose. The official’s whistle and yellow flag stops play while the penalty is immediately enforced. Yet not EVERY act of cheating is caught… just most of them.

It’s not that way in life. There are no time outs… the clock keeps on ticking. Cheaters aren’t always immediately assessed a penalty. Most of the time cheaters (Those who break God’s Laws) think they won’t ever have to own up or pay for their transgression. Sadly… they are wrong.

Just because God doesn’t immediately judge a person or exact punishment for their sin does not mean it won’t happen!

But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury (Ro 2:5-8).

The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. (2 Peter 2:9-10)

By the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (2 Peter 3:7)

For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Heb 10:30-31)

Seriously… meditate on these passages…

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matt 12:36-37)

On that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. (Ro 2:16)

Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops. (Lk 12:2-3)
