God mostly chooses NOT to yell. He communicates more often in subtle ways than big huge signs that overwhelm the senses. As it is written…
1 Kings 19:11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.
Ps 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Many people want great and dramatic things to happen when they encounter God. But God works counter intuitively. Many time he prefers the almost mundane of ways to engage us. For Moses it was a small burning bush Moses had to turn aside to see what it was (It wasn’t a bonfire!). In Psalms God said to be still (Be quite… listen close… and focus, in order to encounter God). In 1 Kings God spoke in a soft whispering tone. These things should not surprise us, for it is written in 1 Corinthians…
1:20 Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 27 God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
Consider the very real possibility that God nudges you every day in small, subtle ways. He whispers through small fleeting thoughts in your mind throughout each day. Those whispers are just as much God as fire falling from heaven, the Transfiguration, tongues of fire, or a blinding light!. So be listening…
I prayed that God would prompt me to be aware in a certain area and it is amazing how often he does that.
