For your quiet time(s) this week… consider the discipline (And it does take discipline!) of Christian meditation.
Read these passages S-L-O-W-L-Y. Let them sink deep into your soul. Ruminate on them and what the phrases mean. Ask God to reveal Himself to you through these…
Pr 23:7 As a man thinks in his heart, so is he… (KJV-Paraphrased) Note: We are & become whatever we think of/on most… Q: What do we think about when we have nothing to think about? THAT is who we are!
Phil 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true… honorable… just… pure… lovely… commendable, if there is any excellence.. anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Josh 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day & night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, & then you will have good success.
Ps 19:14 Let the words of my mouth & the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight,
Ps 63:5 My soul will be satisfied as with fat & rich food, & my mouth will praise You with joyful lips, 6 WHEN I remember you upon my bed, & meditate on you in the watches of the night; 7 for You have been my help, & in the shadow of Your wings I will sing for joy. 8 My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.
Ps 104:34 May my meditation be pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the Lord.
Ps 119:15 I will meditate on Your precepts & fix my eyes on Your ways.
Ps 119:23 Even though princes sit plotting against me, Your servant will meditate on Your statutes. (Where focus should be in times of stress).
Ps 119:78 Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on Your precepts. (Let God handle adversaries… we flee to Him)
Ps 119:97 Oh how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. 98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation.
Ps 145:5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty, & on Your wondrous works, I will meditate.
Ps 119:52 When I think of Your rules from of old, I take comfort, O Lord.
Ps 119:59 When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to Your testimonies…
1 Cor 2:16 We have the mind of Christ.
This method of meditating on the Word helps you to get past the idea that you can quickly read a verse and think to yourself that you know what it means. If you slowly focus on each word and its meanings and the implications of the words then you will get a much deeper understanding of the verse.
